The Humanitarian Demining Vulcan™ (HDV) is a simplified version of Alford Technologies’ award-winning Vulcan™ user-filled shaped charge system. The Humanitarian Demining Vulcan™ (HDV) is a cost-effective solution for the low-order disposal of Explosive Remnants of War (ERW). It provides Non-Governmental Organisations with a reliable and affordable disposal method, reducing the financial burden of demining operations. The explosive load of the charge body can be adjusted to meet specific operational requirements. This is achieved by inserting compression rings that fit internally into the body of the charge, providing a level to which the explosive can be loaded.

Explosive Load and Performance

The HDV and Vulcan™ feature a specially designed metal alloy jet-forming cone that reduces the risk of shock-to-detonation to virtually zero while guaranteeing reliable ignition of the explosive fill of the UXO – a feature unique to these charges.
This technology causes a rapid rise in internal pressure within the munition, producing case failure and the ordnance splitting apart in a low-order disruption. Used in the Vulcan™, the alloy cone has produced thousands of successful low-order disruptions against a vast range of munitions around the world.
The explosive load can be adjusted by inserting the compression rings, which fit internally into the body of the charge and provide a level at which the explosive can be loaded. The number of rings required varies inversely with the amount of explosive.

Deployment to Target

The HDV System comes complete with ten charge bodies and includes sturdy aluminium legs, which operators can easily adjust to enable better positioning at the target. It includes one Metal Alloy Jet-Forming Cone per charge and a loading tool to facilitate compact explosive loading.

Each charge includes the unique Alford Split Screw™, enabling safe insertion of the detonator and the capability to construct an array of charges. The package also includes a pack of Plain Detonator Adaptors™.
