Dioplex™ is an aluminium-bodied linear cutting charge for severing steel plate, structural components, and reinforced concrete, on land or underwater. Seven charge sizes cut mild steel from 12mm to 80mm thick, and opposing pairs double that to 160mm, with far less explosive than conventional methods. It is in service with military engineers and the demolition industry worldwide.   Dioplex supports explosive demolition operations on land and, with sealed end caps, underwater to several metres. For deeper or more demanding underwater cutting, see Neptunex™.     Looking for the EOD variant? Dioplex EOD™ applies the same linear-cutting principle to low-order explosive ordnance disposal.

Seven sizes, one system. From DX300 (12mm cut) to DX5000 (80mm cut), matched to the target rather than over-charged

Connects end-to-end into continuous cutting lengths with no loss of initiation reliability

Placeable in zero visibility. The initiator design lets operators fit detonators or DCBs by feel, at either or both ends

Minimal fragmentation hazard. The aluminium body reduces to lightweight fragments with no cut-off or sympathetic detonation risk beyond 20m

Standard 0.5m and 1m lengths, or bespoke lengths for volume orders

Explosive Load and Performance

When using plastic explosive, Dioplex charges can be used to sever mild steel up to 80mm thick (3.15in), and opposing pairs of charges will sever steel twice this thickness. The relative efficiency significantly reduces the amount of explosive needed. Operators should carry out a test firing on any steel target material whose properties are not precisely known.
Dioplex is available in 1m and 0.5m lengths. The 0.5m kits contain all the components necessary to build two charges of 0.25m or less in length, while the 1m kits offer the flexibility of building up to three charges.
Each charge can be initiated at either end, or both ends, by inserting a detonator or detonating cord booster (DCB) held in place by the Split Screw. Initiation is also possible using Detcord Loop Boosters at either end. The design of the initiator enables it to be placed easily in zero visibility conditions. It also provides a convenient way to interconnect an array of charges after they have been attached to the target(s).

Deployment to Target

Dioplex is suitable for land-based and underwater demolition. Detonation on land reduces the aluminium body and lid to tiny, lightweight fragments. These fragments do not pose a cut-off or sympathetic detonation damage risk outside a 20m hazard radius. Use suitable protective measures to reduce the hazard radius further.
After sealing the end caps in position and sealing the longitudinal junction between the body and the liner, Dioplex can be used underwater at a depth of several metres (please contact us to discuss this). To waterproof the charge, it is advised to seal using silicone rubber. For more demanding underwater applications, Neptunex™ is the solution.
